NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have made some noise through the first week of NFL free agency.
The team has made a handful of additions to positions of need headlined by wide receiver Calvin Ridley, center Lloyd Cushenberry, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, and running back Tony Pollard. But the Titans still have holes and should continue adding.
One of those positions is offensive tackle. Tennessee has bolstered the offensive line with the Cushenberry signing and added depth in the versatile Saahdiq Charles, but as things currently stand, I'm not sure the Titans have a starting tackle on either side.
The Titans could always take a starting left tackle with the No. 7 or No. 38 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but right tackle is currently wide open. Daniel Brunskill, Dillon Radunz, Jaelyn Duncan and Nicholas Petit-Frere will all compete for the job, but I'd still like to see Tennessee add a starter in free agency. Here are some of the top remaining free agent offensive tackles available.
Andrus Peat
Former Saints offensive lineman Andrus Peat has started 102 games in New Orleans since 2015. Peat visited with the Titans on Monday as he looks for a new home in 2024.
Peat is a 30-year-old veteran that has played a large majority of his career snaps at left guard. But in 2023, Peat made 12 starts and played over 700 snaps at left tackle.
His experience at right tackle is limited, but Peat allowed just two sacks as a left tackle in 2023. That could translate to the other side of the line and give the Titans another versatile veteran.
Mekhi Becton
Mekhi Becton was the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft that has had to overcome some severe injuries. Becton missed the entire 2022 season with an avulsion fracture in his right knee cap, but bounced back in 2023 and started 16 games for the New York Jets.
Becton started the season as the Jets' right tackle but was quickly shifted to the left side after Duane Brown was placed on Injured Reserve.
The biggest thing here is the upside. Becton was drafted 11th overall because of his physical stature and athleticism. Coming out of college at Louisville, teams saw a 6-foot-7, 365 pound tackle with a 7-foot wingspan and shocking athleticism for his size. The Titans may see that too, especially if new offensive line coach Bill Callahan believes he can help Becton develop.
