The NFL's waiver claim period following 53-man roster cuts has come and gone.

Despite being last in waiver priority, the Chiefs managed to make a waiver claim, securing Colts draft pick Darius Rush. That wasn't the only significant move to come down with the end of the waiver period, though.

According to the league's personnel notice, the three players Kansas City had waived with the injury designation cleared waivers. That means WR Nikko Remigio (shoulder), LB Ola Fatukasi (concussion), and OL Jerome Carvin (unknown) will all revert to the team's injured reserve list.

From there, the Chiefs have two options with these three players. First, they can leave each Remigio, Fatukasi, and Carvin on injured reserve and give them a redshirt year. Those players will not be eligible to be designated to return from injured reserve in that case.

The other option is to agree to an injury settlement with these players. Basically, they'll pay them a portion of their guaranteed salary for the period of time they're set to be out with their injury. Once those players are healthy, they're free to sign with any team, including back with the Chiefs. The team has used this method in the past. They did it just last year with TE Matt Bushman, who rejoined the team's practice squad after he was waived-injured during roster cuts.

Each of Remigio, Fatukasi, and Carvin showed promise. They'd be worth keeping around in either capacity. It's really just up to the Chiefs to decide what they want to do from a player development and financial perspective.
