In what may be a surprise to some, the Cleveland Browns made a waiver claim following yesterday’s cutdowns.

According to the wire, the Browns have claimed CB Kahlef Hailassie from the Kansas City Chiefs. Hailassie is an undrafted rookie who will now go on Cleveland’s 53-man roster.

Cleveland will waive CB A.J. Green to make room for the claim, per NFL Draft Diamonds. Green played in 29 games over the last two seasons.

.Hailassie started his college career at Oregon but didn’t play his first two seasons before transferring to Western Kentucky. In his two seasons at Western Kentucky, the newest member of the Browns had two interceptions each season. Hailassie defended a total of 15 passes while with the Hilltoppers.

In the preseason with the Chiefs, Hailassie had one interception and six tackles. He traded out as a solid boundary corner during the exhibitions. Browns got a first-hand look at their newest addition in the final preseason game, he had a nice pass breakup defending rookie Cedric Tillman.

It will be interesting to see where the Browns go from here, in terms of roster moves. Not many folks expected them to make a waiver claim.
