Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys open the 2023 NFL regular season next Sunday night against the New York Giants. The NFC East showdown will be on the national primetime stage to kick the schedule off.
Naturally, expectations are high for the Cowboys. Dallas made some important roster moves during the offseason to improve and potentially get over the hump. Among the notable acquisitions is wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
The Cowboys parted ways with a day three selection in return for Cooks, and the veteran wide receiver should immediately provide the offense with a significant boost. In fact, that is where Prescott sees the team improved.
"Yeah, a lot of speed. You can name a lot of guys," Prescott said, referencing Cooks and other weapons at his disposal. "Few guys that have speed but are playmakers. Speed is one thing, but to be a playmaker is another thing."
Adding Cooks and his speed next to the playmaking CeeDee Lamb and explosive Tony Pollard could take the offense to another level. Prescott knows that his job is pretty simple.
"For me, it's about getting these guys the ball," said Prescott. "Whether it's in the run game or the pass game, or just out in space to allow them to do what they do best – break tackles, make people miss and show off their speed. We've got a handful of guys and that's going to make my job easier."
The Dallas Cowboys will get the opportunity to showcase its speedy offense – led by head coach Mike McCarthy and new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer – right out of the gate against a divisional rival.
Cowboys’ recent decisions prove they’re in win-now mode for 2023 NFL season
They’ve been proving it since March, too.
