FOXBOROUGH, MA – While Foxborough is a different environment for Pharaoh Brown, the offense he is working in isn't so new to the tight end.
Brown signed with the Patriots practice squad on Wednesday, but was quickly elevated to the main roster on Monday.
Yet he isn't concerned about the short turnaround, instead saying that it's "pretty easy" to catch up.
"The foundation for me is the same. So this is my seventh year, so I've been around a bunch of different offenses around the league," Brown said to the media. "A lot of people run the same stuff, but it's just different terminology, so for me pretty easy."
But why is that?
The answer: Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien.
The two worked together, with O'Brien clearly seeing potential in the tight end while serving as the head coach of the Houston Texans.
"Bill O'Brien gave me my first shot," Brown said. "Coming off the practice squad in Cleveland, he signed me to the Texans."
"I mean I had my best years with O'Brien and the offense is great, it's fast," Brown added. "He's a great guy to play for."
The NFL is a league that is always fast moving and that is certainly true for Brown this preseason. After signing with the Colts earlier this year, Brown was released on Aug. 29 and was signed by the Patriots a day later.
"I left Indy and in five hours I was here practicing the next day," Brown said. "I'm kind of familiar with O'Brien's offense. So, kind of lowers the stress level."
And not only is he with a whole new team, but also in a whole new part of the country.
"This is my first time on the East Coast, honestly," Brown said. "Just getting familiar with the city. I love seafood, so it's the only NFL team where you can walk in and get a whole Lobster. You can't beat that. So I'm enjoying my time and the people are very nice."
Brown joins Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki in the tight end room, bringing in a lot of experience from multiple different teams. He has 51 receptions for 478 yards and two touchdowns throughout his seven seasons.
