Just as the Chicago Bears looked to be fully healthy leading up to their regular season opener against the Green Bay Packers, bad news strikes.

Tight end Robert Tonyan has officially joined the injury report for Sunday's game with a back issue and will be listed as questionable. Tonyan did not appear on the injury report throughout the entire week of practice. The 29-year-old, however, reportedly had soreness in his back that resulted after Friday's practice.

Tonyan signed a one-year contract with Chicago in March after spending his first five seasons with the Packers. The free agent acquisition was set to face off against his former team, but now fans might have to wait another week to see his debut with the Bears.

Chicago also announced three other roster moves on Saturday leading up to Sunday's game. The team will be elevating tight end Stephen Carlson and linebacker DeMarquis Gates from the practice squad to the active roster.

Carlson, the third-year player who spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, will add some needed tight end depth if Tonyan is unable to suit up. Tight end Cole Kmet should also expect to now see a higher workload on Sunday.

Gates will be the more intriguing elevation after the Bears announced that they have released special teams linebacker Dylan Cole. Cole was originally the only player listed on the team's injury report with an official designation following Friday's practice.

Gates appeared in three games last season with the Bears and could see a role carved out for him on special teams against the Packers. Rookie linebacker Noah Sewell is now expected to be the team's first linebacker off the bench.

The news isn’t what Bears fans were expecting to see this weekend leading up to the first game of the regular season.
