The Kansas City Chiefs and All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones have finally reached an agreement on a new deal, ending his holdout almost immediately.
The deal is worth one year, with some added-on incentives. From everything we are seeing, the multiple incentives for this season will earn the large raise he wanted when the negotiations started this offseason.
For Jones, he gets what he wants, and the Chiefs get what they want: their All-Pro, Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
However, this means Jones may test the free agency market after this season.
Here is what Cheisf general manager Brett Veach said in his statement released after the agreement:
"Chris is an elite player in this league, and over the last seven years, he's really developed into a leader on our team," Veach said. "He's been instrumental to our success and Super Bowl championship runs, and it was a priority for us to keep him in a Chiefs uniform. I'd like to thank Chris and his representation, Michael and Jason Katz, for their desire and patience to get this done. Through this process, two things were obvious: Chris wanted to be a Chief, and the Katz brothers worked diligently on his behalf."
Jones is expected to be in uniform playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Chiefs’ Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes don’t mince words regarding Chris Jones’ holdout
The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for the Detroit Lions as if Chris Jones will not be there.
