The Dallas Cowboys defense has no shortage of talent. Led by All-Pro talents such as edge rusher Micah Parsons and ball-hawking defensive back Trevon Diggs, there is plenty of playmakers for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to utilize.

It's looking more and more like you can add Sam Williams to that list. The rising defensive end out of Ole Miss has already flashed on the NFL level, but he is taking that to another level as he gears up for the 2023 NFL regular season.

Williams was effective in the team's second preseason game versus the Seattle Seahawks this weekend. There, he made a pair of tackles and got to the quarterback for a sack against college rival Charles Cross, Seattle's franchise left tackle.

Williams combined his quickness and bend around the edge with strength. He overpowered Cross en route to sacking starting Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith during the first quarter of Saturday's game.

Which is exactly what the Dallas Cowboys need. Williams taking that next step and emerging as a reliable and consistent pass rusher would open more things up for himself along with Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence and the rest of the crew up front.

Dallas Cowboys writer Jon Matchota of The Athletic highlighted Williams after the performance. While the rising defender has things to clean up, there's a lot to be excited about moving forward.

The Cowboys are going to need somebody to step up and capitalize on advantageous situations created by offenses scheming against Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, similar to what Randy Gregory did in his final year in Dallas. Williams has flashed the ability to do that and he was visible again against the Seahawks.

Sam Williams taking the next step and becoming a consistent force for the Dallas Cowboys would go a long way in elevating the defense even more. Which has to be scary for offenses to think about.
