We had a lot of big shakeups on this weeks edition of the Detroit Lions depth chart and 53 man prediction article. A lot of guys that made the practice squad last week have been bumped up to the main roster for one reason or another. So with that happening, I decided to do a follow up and make another go at predicting the Lions practice quad. Here's this weeks prediction.

A lot of changes have been made this week. For starters, Adrian Martinez is out and Nate Sudfeld is in. The Lions have to have a quarterback on the practice squad and its clear that they like Sudfeld enough to keep him around. Martinez was fun in that first preseason game, but he didn't play at all in the second one.

Ibrahim is gone now. The Lions were trying all kinds of things with Jermar Jefferson on Saturday. Usually when a team does that, it means that they're trying to find a spot for player. Jefferson finds his way onto the practice squad for the third year in a row.

Dylan Drummond has had a really good camp, but hasn't been able to show much in the preseason games outside of some drops that should have been catches. The Lions should still keep him in the building though.

Julian Okwara did not make the 53 man roster in this weeks prediction. I have him on the practice squad here. I honestly don't think this one winds up happening. There will definitely be teams interested in him. But, if they're able to swing it, they should make sure they swing it.

Khalil Dorsey is a guy that see possibly having a Jerry Jacobs or AJ Parker like future. I don't know if he plays a lot of regular season football this year, but I would not be shocked if he did next season. The Lions seem to like him too. He's played a lot of snaps during the preseason. I'm interested to see where things go with him.

Brad Cecil has played more preseason snaps than almost every single player on the roster. The Lions clearly want to see what they have in the undrafted rookie out of USF. He should for sure make the practice squad.

Here's some quick notes on the rest of the squad:

  • Kayode Awosika: He actually started some games for the Lions last year. While he won't make the 53 man roster, he should stick around for depth.
  • Obina Eze: The Hard Knocks standout from last year is a project and I just don't see them giving up on that project already.
  • Brandon Joseph: I think there's more to see from the former Notre Dame safety. He should stay.
  • Maurice Alexander: The Lions don't completely have a return man picked at the moment. So you keep Alexander around in case nothing works out.
  • Chase Lucas: There's something there. He's getting closer, but he's just not there yet.
  • Savion Smith: The Lions liked him enough last year to give him a chance to start. I think they still like him.
  • Trevor Nowaske: He's a project that the Lions should spend some time working on.
  • Parker Romo: Don't let that leg get too far away.
  • Conor Galvin: Looked pretty good all preseason long. He's a guy that could potentially make his way to the main roster at some point.
  • Cory Durden: Off all the defensive linemen the Lions have brought out during the preseason, he's looked the best. He needs  lot of work though.

Lions depth chart prediction after second preseason game

Two preseason games down for the Detroit Lions and one to go. The Lions depth chart and 53 man roster are starting to come into focus a little more every single day.  Just like last week when we had a lot of changes, we've got more changes today after a few waivers and some revelations […]
