Cleveland Browns will likely have to go up against Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow in Week 1 and his coach’s latest comments confirm that.

“He looks great,” Bengals’ HC Zac Taylor said Monday. “Physically just walking around, he looks probably as good as he’s ever looked at this point.”

Also, Taylor confirmed that Burrow won’t need much practice time to be ready to start in the first game of the NFL season.

Taylor said it will take “one rep”, for Burrow to be ready to go. This could indicate that the Bengals don’t plan to have Burrow practice very much leading up to Week 1.

In his career, Burrow is 1-4 against the Browns as the starting quarterback in Cincinnati. Since his rookie season, Burrow has been average against the Browns. During his rookie season, he lit the Browns up twice, despite losing both games. In those two contests, Burrow threw for a combined 722 yards and six touchdowns.

Last season, the Bengals and Browns split their two games.

Starting the game off with an AFC North matchup, the Bengals want to be at their best, as will the Browns. Taylor has been adamant that Burrow is “several weeks” away from being ready when asked multiple times over the last few weeks.

Cincinnati is going to let their star quarterback heal up to the full extent up until the season and risk no further injury. When you play at the level that Burrow does, he’s not going to need a ton of time to be ready. The former No. 1 overall pick is in the elite group of quarterbacks that you can say that about.

So, if Browns’ fans were hoping to see Jake Browning behind center on Sept. 10, it’s likely not happening.
