Cowboys' Quinton Bohanna on track to get cut despite strong preseason

I entered this year's preseason with little hope that nose tackle Quinton Bohanna would earn a spot on the Dallas Cowboys' 53-man roster. But he's sure as heck put up a fight in the last couple of games.
Put simply, Bohanna looks like a player worthy of a roster spot. Over the last couple of exhibition games, he's been a sneaky riser that will force the Cowboys to make a tough decision come cutdown day on August, 29th.
And yet, on my latest roster projection, I couldn't fit Bohanna into the 53 players that will make up the team. A big reason why is the way the roster is set up: The Cowboys are loaded across the defensive line and that includes two nose tackles that are above Bohanna.
That'd be Johnathan Hankins, who did a great job for the Cowboys stepping in near the trade deadline last year, and first-round rookie Mazi Smith.
At the end of the day, building a roster is a numbers game where the ever-present constraint is the number 53. That's the player limit and carrying three nose tackles under that consideration is a hard feat to pull off.
To make matters even more difficult, the Cowboys are likely going long at edge rusher just because of the amount of talent they've got in the position. From Micah Parsons to undrafted rookie Isaiah Land, it's a group filled with fearsome characters.
Plus, Dan Quinn has shown he's willing to slide his edge rushers inside and we expect players like rookie Viliami Fehoko to do that consistently. Even DeMarcus Lawrence plays a lot of snaps inside with Quinn calling the shots. That should theoretically allow the Cowboys to go long at EDGE while going relatively short on the interior defensive line.
Bohanna, who started nine games last year, could be one of the toughest preseason cuts the Cowboys have to make this year excluding rookie players.
