Dallas Cowboys Quinton Bohanna

It's no secret that even on a Las Vegas Raiders roster that has improved a ton, especially on the defensive side, they still need some work on the defensive line. The depth there could be better, although it is better than it was last season.

Luckily for the Raiders, they will have the opportunity to make it better soon.

After their last preseason game, August 29 is the date set that every team in the league must cut down from 90 to 53 men on the roster. It's hard because you must make tough decisions and let some good football players go. However, at the same time, it allows the Raiders to scour the players that have been cut elsewhere and improve their team.

When that does happen, the Raiders could look into a guy who started nine games last season for the Dallas Cowboys and has had a decent preseason but is still on track to getting cut. It isn't even his fault he likely won't make the team.

Raiders should look into Cowboys' Bohanna after August 29

According to A to Z Sports' Mauricio Rodriguez, defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna could be a former starter we see cut by the Cowboys.

Put simply, Bohanna looks like a player worthy of a roster spot. Over the last couple of exhibition games, he's been a sneaky riser that will force the Cowboys to make a tough decision come cutdown day on August 29. And yet, on my latest roster projection, I couldn't fit Bohanna into the 53 players that will make up the team. A big reason why is the way the roster is set up: The Cowboys are loaded across the defensive line, and that includes two nose tackles that are above Bohanna.

Bohanna has played nose tackle in the past, so he is versatile. However, if he were to play for the Raiders, he would play defensive tackle and be used more as a gap stuffer with his 6'4", 360-pound frame. Bohanna has played 15 snaps this preseason as a nose tackle, 52 as a defensive tackle, and just two snaps lined up over the offensive tackle.

The Raiders need depth on the defensive line, and right now, Neil Farrell, Matthew Butler, Adam Butler, John Jenkins, Byron Young, and Nesta Jade-Silvera are the backups at defensive tackle. Bohanna can slide into a backup spot, seeing he has the starter experience from last season.

In preseason Week 1, Bohanna had a 70.8 run defense grade, according to Pro Football Focus, and a 61 pass-rush grade last weekend. Bohanna wouldn't be a game-changer on the defensive line by any means; however, he would be a guy who could provide depth at one of the Raiders' biggest needs, and that is what matters most at this point of the season.
