Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs should be an exciting one for Cleveland Browns fans.

The starters that can play will be out there for at least 20-25 plays, according to HC Kevin Stefanski. It will be the most work the starters get in during a preseason game this year.

Deshaun Watson revealed that he has the ‘keys’ to the offense this season, thanks to Stefanski and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. It may not be something we see on Saturday, as the Browns don’t want to show too much.

“AVP and Kevin gave me the keys and they're letting me control a lot of things that we do on the field, along with them play calling in the headset and being able to see things that I can check out too,” Watson said on Wednesday.

It was always known the Browns offense was going to open up more and adjust to their franchise quarterback’s game. He’s just never said it publicly until today. Expect Watson to change plays on the field a lot more in 2023.

Deshaun Watson has one goal for Saturday, it’s a pretty simple one, and that’s to compete.

“I’m excited to get out here with the guys to get my routine going. To perk up for the season and to go out there and compete. That’s the ultimate goal is to compete and go out there and help the team with whatever I can do.”

When it comes to getting back to being amongst the NFL’s best quarterbacks like he was in 2020, Watson is not worried about that.

“I’m self-driven, I want to be the best I can be for Deshaun Watson. I can’t get caught up in the other guys and see what they’re doing, all of them are elite.”

The AFC North is going to be a gauntlet with all four teams having a roster that is capable of reaching the playoffs. After the last couple of seasons, the Cincinnati Bengals have to be the standard right now. But the three other teams are approaching.

“You got to go and make plays. The mental errors and the small things you can let up in certain games, you can’t do that in this division,” Watson said. “So, it’s very very tight and we want to go out there and try to win it.”
