The Chicago Bears have already done major work at the RB position, having brought in veteran D’Onta Foreman and rookie Roschon Johnson this offseason.
However, per A to Z Sports' Destin Adams, the Bears -alongside the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins- are interested in trading for embattled Colts RB Jonathan Taylor.
The Bears backfield currently has multiple young, intriguing players, headlined by Khalil Herbert and rookie Roschon Johnson. While both have plenty of upside, neither has the star power that would come with acquiring Jonathan Taylor. They are also arguably in the best position to acquire Taylor if they elect to do so due to their draft asset and projected 2024 cap space being the 2nd highest in the NFL.
A league source shared with me that the Chicago Bears reached out to gauge what it would take to acquire Jonathan Taylor. However, no offer came from these introductory conversations, and I was told an offer "Isn't imminent at this time." – Destin Adams, A to Z Sports
The Colts were initially resistant to trading Taylor, but appear to be willing to listen now. It is thought that the team is expecting one first or second-round pick in addition to at least one mid-round selection.
Any team that is willing to meet this asking price would also have to make Taylor among the highest-paid backs in the league as well.
While Adams' report said an offer "is not imminent," the Bears would be an obvious fit. The Bears have future cap space, plenty of draft capital, and a need for star power on offense.
I wonder if the Colts would be interested in Khalil Herbert in a potential trade. This is pure speculation, but Herbert would be expendable if Taylor is traded for and rookie Roschon Johnson is still on the roster. This would leave the Bears with Taylor, Johnson, and veteran D'Onta Foreman.
