There we go. That's the 16 players I chose. Let me give you 16 reasons why I chose those guys.

  1. Jermar Jefferson: The Lions are still really waiting to see what they can do with Jefferson. They tried him at return man and they obviously tried him at running back. Neither spot worked well enough to get him on the main roaster. His play during the early days of camp should get him on the practice squad.
  2. Chase Cota: There was a time that I thought Cota could make the Lions 53 man roster. Ultimately Drummond and Green beat him out for the job. Still, Cota showed enough this summer for the Lions to make sure they keep him around.
  3. Trinity Benson: Benson is still one of Brad Holmes weirdest moves, but the Lions see something there. They keep bringing him back. He actually looked pretty good in camp until he got hurt. That should be enough for the Lions to keep him around.
  4. Darrell Daniels: I thought for sure that Daniels would make the roster at one point. He's a good blocker and a decent pass catcher as well. Brock Wright was the better choice though. Still, I think it's worth it to take another look at him.
  5. Conor Galvin: The undrafted tackle looked pretty good when he got a chance to play in the preseason. He graded out in the low 70's by Pro Football Focus. The Lions gave Nelson and Ifedi a lot more snaps, but they should want to take another look at Galvin this year.
  6. Kayode Awosika: Awosika started a game for the Lions last year and he didn't do too bad. The Lions clearly wanted to take another look at him. I think they keep looking.
  7. Cory Durden: He really showed what he could do on Friday night against the Panthers. That bull rush that he showed at the end of the game probably nabbed him this spot.
  8. Anthony Pittman: I actually thought Pittman would make the roster again due to his special teams play, but rookie Trevor Nowaske edged him out in my 53 man roster prediction. Pittman is a shoe in to make the practice squad.
  9. Khalil Dorsey: This one was hard. It wasn't hard putting him on the practice squad, it was hard keeping him off the Lions 53 man roster. Any other year and he makes it. This year I had to go with the other guys. He should stick around though.
  10. Brady Breeze: I feel like Breeze is another guy that might have had the chance to make the Lions roster in another year. This year everyone was just too good. He'll stick around with his cousin Chase Cota though.
  11. Brandon Joseph: He was a very early candidate to make the roster as a replacement for C.J. Moore. He just never really made it happen. He's good enough to take a longer look at though.
  12. Parker Romo: Patterson won the job, but Romo could maybe take it later if Patterson keeps missing field goals like he did Friday.
  13. Devine Ozigbo: Ozigbo once played for the Saints while Dan Campbell was the teams assistant head coach. Campbell brought him here for a reason. While he didn't have the most exciting preseason, I think he's a guy they want to keep around.
  14. Maurice Alexander: That 95 yard punt return was too good to ignore. The Lions should keep alexander around just in case they need a return man in the future.
  15. Obina Eze: It's always been a project with Eze. He's still very new to the game of football and while he's not ready to make the main roster, I don't think the Lions are ready to be done with the project yet.
  16. Adrian Martinez: This spot probably would have gone to Nate Sudfeld if he hadn't been carted off the field. Martinez can hold this spot down until Hendon Hooker is activated.

Final Lions’ 53-man roster prediction

The preseason is finally over for the Detroit Lions. The next stop is the regular season. After watching camp and preseason games, I think I have  a good handle on the Lions 53 man roster. Let's go ahead a jump right into it. Here's our final 53 man roster prediction for the Lions.  Quarterback (2) […]
