The San Francisco 49ers traded former third overall pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys on Friday. Turns out there were many teams that were interested and placed a call. The Detroit Lions were reportedly one of those teams.

To be honest, I don't get this one at all. The Lions are pretty set with Jared Goff for the foreseeable future. They also just drafted Hendon Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Plus they have Teddy Bridgewater on the roster. I'm not sure where Lance would have fit in.

Lance is an interesting option. The 49ers clearly saw enough in him to trade a lot of assets to move up to pick him. He just never worked out and the 49ers decided to move on. What Lance really needs is playing time. He wasn't going to get that in Detroit.

I'm guessing, and once again, this is just a guess, that once Brad Holmes saw that the price for Lance was a fourth round pick, he kindly hung up the phone and went about his business.
