Health should be the main concern anytime an NFL player gets hurt for said team and that rings true for the Cleveland Browns right now.

The Browns should be very concerned for the future of CB Denzel Ward. Ward was placed in the concussion protocol following an exit in the first quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs in the team’s final preseason game.

If Ward does indeed have a concussion, it will be his fourth one in five seasons played, prior to his sixth season. At that point, you have to be very concerned with the player.

Last season, Ward suffered one in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers and had to miss three games. He was open with the fact that he was dealing with headaches that would not go away. Three games missed with a concussion is a bit longer than usual, it shows the severity of the last one he had. Now, he may have another one.

If Ward does indeed have his fourth concussion, he could be in jeopardy of missing the Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. With the wide receivers that the Bengals deploy with Joe Burrow throwing them the ball, it would be a huge loss. Cleveland has three very good cornerbacks with Martin Emerson Jr. and Greg Newsome II being weapons at the position but missing your No. 1 corner would be detrimental.

The most important part of it all is the health, as mentioned at the beginning of this article. Four concussions in a lifetime is a lot, let alone in a few years. At some point, the Browns and Ward himself have to be concerned with what he is dealing with. CTE is a real thing and it affects people for much of their lives after football but can’t be detected until death.

For any additional concussions, you may be talking about a player who could be retiring from the game early. Cleveland now have to do the right thing with Ward and sit him to begin the season if he does indeed have his fourth concussion.

It’s a scary reality of the game, it’s violent and that can’t be wavered any other way. With the health issues that Ward has had to this point, Cleveland has to be worried about him.
