Cleveland Browns received some critical news that they needed ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday.
Before practice, CB Denzel Ward revealed that he would be returning today after being placed in the concussion protocol. Ward suffered the injury against the Kansas City Chiefs in the first quarter of the final preseason game.
Ward had been out since Aug. 26 in the protocol and there was worry that he would not be able to go against the Bengals.
With Ward returning to practice midweek, it’s a great sign that he will be playing Week 1. When you factor in the receiving unit that the Bengals deploy, it is vital to have Ward out there. Ward remains in the protocol, so he will practice on a limited basis.
Now, Ward will likely look to follow Bengals No. 1 wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase around. The two have great respect for each other and Chase has said he’s one of the best in the game.
When Ward entered concussion protocol, it was his fourth time entering it in less than six seasons played. That is a worry in itself, a pretty big one.
But it looks as if the Browns will have their No. 1 cornerback out there in a divisional game to open up the season and that’s a good boost for Cleveland.
