Nick Bosa's holdout is finally over, and the 49ers' star edge rusher made sure to make it known he is ready to make an immediate impact.

Bosa and the 49ers finally agreed to terms on a contract extension for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday.

It's a five-year, $170 million deal with $122.5 million guaranteed that makes him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history by a wide margin. His average annual salary of $34 million sees him surpass the previous high set by Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald ($31.6 million).

Agreeing the deal just four days before the 49ers' season opener with the Steelers, there will be doubts about Bosa's ability to step straight in and be difference maker in a difficult Week 1 clash on the road.

But Bosa used only two words to state unequivocally in a post on Instagram that he is primed to resume his devastating form of 2022.

Bosa will take inspiration from the man he overtook as the NFL's highest-paid edge rusher by agreeing this deal. Steelers star T.J. Watt signed his extension three days before the start of the 2021 season and went on to record two sacks and a forced fumble in a win over the Bills.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year will have every confidence of doing similar damage to Pittsburgh on Sunday and, with Watt hoping to wreak havoc on the other side, the opener could prove to be an extremely compelling matchup between two of the NFL's elite pass rushers.
