Exercising one more demon
The Bengals have taken five straight trips to Cleveland and have yet to come back home with a victory. How long ago has it been? The Bengals went up north to beat the Browns 31-7 in 2017 thanks to touchdowns from A.J. Green, Giovani Bernard, and Tyler Kroft! Remember him? Yeah, it's been a minute. The Bengals have broken a lot of bad trends in recent years. They'll get their chance to break another one right out the gate.
3 Bengals players to watch
- RB Joe Mixon: While the Bengals don't have success very often against the Browns, Mixon is usually not at fault for that. Three of his 11 career games with 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground have been against the other Ohio team. Will the offense lean on him early in Joe Burrow's first live action since recovering from a calf strain? It wouldn't be a surprise.
- RT Jonah Williams: Many lowlights of Williams' young career have come against the Browns, specifically when he's faced against Myles Garrett. Williams may see less of Garrett now that he's starting at right tackle, but the perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate frequently moves all over the Browns' defensive line. Williams playing well in his debut on the right side of the Bengals' offensive line would be monumental.
- S Dax Hill: Speaking of debuts, this is Hill's first start at safety for Cincinnati. The first-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft has looked very promising as one of two new safeties in Lou Anarumo's defense, but now he'll have to validate it in a regular season game. Expect to see him take snaps in the slot, in the box, and back deep.
