The Dallas Cowboys, who are favored to win Sunday night's season opener versus the New York Giants, keep adding names to their injury report.

On Saturday, the latest starter to be penciled in as questionable for the game was free safety Malik Hooker. The veteran, who was recently signed to a three-year contract extension, is a critical piece of Dan Quinn's defense as he's the best cover safety on the team and acts as the centerfielder up top.

Per Dallas Morning News' Michael Gehlken, Hooker was added to the injury report due to "illness." The truth is that the safety's status could mean a number of different things and it's anyone's guess whether or not he'll be able to go against the Giants.

That being said, Cowboys insider Patrik Walker reports Hooker's situation isn't anything to worry about and that the expectation is for him to play this weekend.

That's great news to hear as the Cowboys safety room was already banged up with Donovan Wilson is doubtful to play. Losing Hooker would've spelled trouble for Quinn's renowned three-safety looks. With little depth at linebacker – which is expected to be made up by the team's good depth at safety – it could suddenly put the team in a bind against a Giants offense that will try to stress them horizontally all game long.

But for now, it seems it'll be just Wilson who misses Sunday's game. The offense is expected to be without left guard Tyler Smith as well.
