What will Panthers QB Bryce Young show in his debut?

Panthers head coach Frank Reich said Bryce Young will get to show what he can do in his first start of the NFL preseason. With the first snap on Saturday, it marks the start of the Young era for the Panthers. Several expectations are riding on the Alabama product being exactly who scouts have said he can be.

Three things to watch in Panthers-Jets

  • Bryce Young's big question: How much will height factor into Bryce Young's ability to quarterback at the NFL level? Much has been made about Young's small stature. When Young was recently asked whether he has felt the difference in the NFL size, he said it was not that different from what he experienced at the college level. That is somewhat expected, with the SEC boasting countless NFL-caliber players. Against the Jets, Young will get to showcase his height not being a factor for him at the pro level.
  • Panthers' new defensive scheme: With a change in defensive scheme, –moving from a 4-3 to a 3-4 — come Saturday marks the first time the Panthers will see how some of their players fair in unfamiliar roles. Brian Burns, when asked about the change in defensive scheme, he said it will help him showcase his football IQ. Against the Jets, the rest of the Panthers will have an opportunity to see how they play in a new base defensive scheme.
  • Frank Reich's influence: Panthers players have raved about the type of coach Frank Reich has shown himself to be. Recently, the Panthers signed a veteran outside linebacker Justin Houston solely because he wanted to play for Reich. In the first preseason game, the Panthers organization will see how quickly Reich can right the ship on a team walking into its first season with expectations since the Cam Newton era.
