The Green Bay Packers take on the Cincinnati Bengals Friday night and even though it's preseason, there are a few players that really need to make sure they stand out in the best of ways.
So, without further delay, let's dive into three Packers players that need to have a good game against the Bengals.
OL Sean Rhyan
Rhyan isn't on this list for negative reasons. He needs to have a good game in order to keep his strong camp on track.
The second-year offensive lineman's future was in major question heading into the 2023 offseason. He had an extremely disappointing rookie year and many wondered if he'd get thing figured out before final cuts in August.
So far, he has. There have been plenty of reports praising Rhyan's work on the practice field. It's been so strong, in fact, that the vibe is he can provide depth in 2023.
He's going to get plenty of playing time on Friday night against the Bengals. Providing quality snaps will only keep the ball rolling and his future with the Packers intact.
WR Grant DuBose
DuBose finally got on the Packers' practice field after missing all of rookie minicamp, OTAs, and mandatory minicamp with a back injury.
Since then, the Packers receiver room has filled out quite nicely. Meaning, jobs are getting taken and less is left on the table, currently.
There's also a chance the Packers carry five receivers. If that's the case, then it's easy to assume Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Samori Toure, and Dontayvion Wicks have the top-5 spots, right now.
So, DuBose is going to have to make an impact on Friday night, but not in the way most receivers do. He's going to have to shine on special teams, because if he does the make the team, he'll be WR6 – which means he has to play teams.
S Anthony Johnson Jr.
Johnson Jr. is in a similar situation as DuBose, minus the back injury. He's currently entangled in a very crowded position group that is the Packers safety room.
Like receiver, it's easy to see who the Packers' top safeties are, right now. Darnell Savage leads the way then there's the trio of Rudy Ford, Jonathan Owens, and Tarvarius Moore heading things up. Special teams ace Dallin Leavitt is also in the mix because of his teams prowess.
NFL teams aren't going to carry six safeties and there's a world in which the Packers may not even carry five. Johnson, a seventh-round rookie, needs to show up on both defense and special teams if he wants to climb the ladder.
