Dallas Cowboys football is finally back!
After a long wait, we get to see America's Team back on the playing field. It's a long way until the regular season but this is the Cowboys' first chance of showing what they've been working on in training camp.

Will the Cowboys play the starters?
Highly unlikely. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has avoided playing starters for the most part during his time in Dallas. Earlier this week, he suggested the team would stick to what they've done in the past. Expect backups mostly today.
A few exceptions could be relatively inexperienced starters like TE Jake Ferguson, LB Damone Clark, and CB DaRon Bland.
How will kicker Brandon Aubrey do?
Kicker might be a boring pick to highlight on this post but it's perhaps the biggest-impact starter the Cowboys could show on today's showdown versus the Jaguars. Aubrey started off with questionable performances in practice but improved once he became the lone kicker on the roster.
The Cowboys cut Tristan Vizcaino on Monday to give the former USFL standout "more opportunities." Let's see what he does with them.
3 Players to watch
- WR Jalen Tolbert: It's time to show the world why he was a third-round draft pick last year. Tolbert ended up being a healthy scratch for most of his rookie year. Having left last year's struggles in the past, Tolbert has been on the rise in training camp. Now he's set to battle Simi Fehoko, who has the early edge in the eyes of many, for the primary backup role at wide receiver.
- RB Deuce Vaughn: Who doesn't want to figure out what the 5-foot-5 running back looks like in an actual NFL game? Mike McCarthy told reporters earlier this week the coaching staff can't help but smile when they see him pass-protect. Now it's the fans' turn to see that happen.
- TE Luke Schoonmaker: The second-round rookie didn't get practice time in minicamp and the start of training camp as he battled a foot injury. On Thursday, he got to suit up and play some football. It's looking like he'll play in the preseason opener and I, for one, can't wait to learn anything about the guy after a very quiet summer.
More Cowboys news ahead of the game
- WR KaVontae Turpin will not get playing time as a returner.
- OL Chuma Edoga was carted off the field on Thursday with a knee injury.
- First-round rookie Mazi Smith "is fine" following MRI.
Cowboys: 3 players in danger of being cut who need strong preseasons
The Dallas Cowboys play their preseason opener on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. These players need a strong showing to save their jobs.
