The New York Giants did not get the result that they wanted in the preseason opener, dropping the game to the Detroit Lions on Friday night. But it's far too soon to have any ounce of worry.

That goes for rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt. Many were eagerly awaiting to see what Hyatt would do in his preseason debut. His speed is expected to open up another element of Brian Daboll's offense in New York.

Unfortunately, Hyatt did not put on the show that some were expecting — or at least hoping for. Instead, the first-year pass catcher out of Tennessee was held to just one reception on eight targets.

To make matters worse, that one reception was a negative gain. Surely not the kind of performance that the third-round draft selection was wanting to deliver during the first time wearing the Giants colors.

Still, there's no reason to worry. Because preseason is all about working out the kinks and improving in key areas before the games really begin to matter. Besides, Hyatt won't be catching passes from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, anyways.

Which is critical to remember. Hyatt's skill set will be best when paired with Daniel Jones throwing the ball and surrounded by the likes of Pro Bowl talents Saquon Barkley and Darren Waller.

Hyatt has put his speed on full display during practices. There's no doubt that the potential is there for him to, at least, become a consistent downfield threat with the ability to open up the offense to another level.

The rookie wideout showed that he can get open, which is important when examining his fit in the regular season. Jalin Hyatt is primed for a bounce back the next time that he plays big snaps for the New York Giants.
