With multiple injuries currently affecting the safety room, it was announced by Jordan Schultz that the Indianapolis Colts are working out veteran safety Ronnie Harrison Jr.
Colts fans may remember Harrison Jr. as he was a rival with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018 and 2019.
The injury bug has hit the Colts' safety room as of late. Both starters, Julian Blackmon and Rodney Thomas II missed the team's preseason opener and were out of practice this past week.
A safety being added to the roster could make sense even after Blackmon and Thomas II are back from injury, though, as there isn't a clear 4th safety on the roster at the moment.
The depth chart currently stands as:
Starters
FS: Rodney Thomas II
SS: Julian Blackmon
Reserves:
FS: Trevor Denbow
SS: Nick Cross.
The trio of Blackmon, Thomas II, and Nick Cross likely feel safe come roster cut down, but a veteran safety to backup Thomas II at FS is a need. A safety with solid ball skills would be ideal, and Harrison Jr. has five interceptions so far in his NFL career.
We shall see if Harrison Jr. is able to come to an agreement with the Colts. If he leaves without signing on the dotted line, the likelihood of the pairing occurring dramatically lessens.
