The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t start their first day of padded practice the way they originally hoped they would.
Sure, some great things happened. Guys made plays, but at the same time, they had three guys end up leaving practice with injuries, and all three are key parts of the team.
Tight end Jody Fortson, linebacker Drue Tranquill and defensive end Mike Danna all ended up on the post-practice injury report.
According to head coach Andy Reid, Fortson suffered a shoulder injury, Tranquill strained his neck, and Danna ended up with a strained calf. While none of them sound serious, it’s still not a great thing, and definitely something to be worried about.
I will say this: There are still 40 days between now and the start of the regular season, which is plenty of time to get healthy.
The Chiefs will need all hands on deck if they want to be the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the 2005 New England Patriots.
The Chiefs pride themselves on their depth. No, none of these guys are starters, but missing time as key rotational players can be detrimental.
