The NFL is a business, at the end of the day and former Green Bay Packers draft pick Jonathan Garvin found that out in the one of the roughest ways possible.
The Packers released Garvin on Friday in a rather unsurprising move. The team has plenty of competition at the EDGE/OLB position and Matt LaFleur and co. are also very hopeful that Rashan Gary will return before the season starts. Combine that with the presence of first-round rookie, Lukas Van Ness, and it's easy to see why Garvin was the odd man out – especially after he missed pretty much all of OTAs/minicamp.
But, the kicker in Garvin's situation is team released him on his birthday. And just a few hoours the team's social media account wished him happy birthday.
It's really unfortunate for Garvin, who was a seventh-round pick out of Miami in the 2020 NFL Draft. He managed to appear in 38 games with one start over the course of his career and he racked up 32 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1.0 TFL, and seven QB hits during that span.
Packers’ Christian Watson finding success where it matters the most
The Packers offense has plenty of potential with Watson on the field and he’s making the most out of Year 2.
