The New England Patriots' search for a veteran back continued on Saturday, after it was reported that they were hosting Ezekiel Elliott on a visit.
And now there is an update following the visit.
Elliott has reportedly left Gillette Stadium and the two sides are expected to stay in touch going forward, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport writes.
The Patriots have been looking to add a veteran running back to the mix, having interest in Dalvin Cook, while also working out free agents Leonard Fournette and former Rams running back Darrell Henderson last week.
However, Cook appears to have greater interest in joining the New York Jets or Miami Dolphins, so New England is looking towards other free agents.
Elliott was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round (fourth overall pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Across his seven years with the Cowboys, Elliott has 8,262 rushing yards and 68 touchdowns across 103 games played. On the receiving side, has has recorded 305 receptions for 2,336 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Patriots have not had a strong track record this offseason (remember all the drama after DeAndre Hopkins' visit?), with the free agents who visited leaving without contract. However, maybe this time will be different and both sides can come to an agreement.
Patriots may have found their solution to the Dalvin Cook situation
The Patriots’ search for a veteran running back continues.
