Seahawks general manager John Schneider paid a heartfelt tribute to Alex Collins following the former running back's tragic passing.

Collins died at the age of 28 on Monday following a motorcycle accident.

He was a fifth-round pick of the Seahawks in 2016 and returned to the team in November 2020 and remained with Seattle for the 2021 campaign.

Schneider said:

"The Seahawks family along with the 12s are so saddened to hear of Alex's passing. Alex's infectious smile and classic river dance skills will forever be missed. Alex would light up a room and was beloved by our entire building. He enjoyed life and attacked it on the football field. He was one of the most productive runners in SEC history. Our sincere condolences to his immediate family, the Gatewood family, and his agent Kelli Masters. You will be forever be missed, Alex. On behalf of Jody Allen, Pete Carroll, Chuck Arnold, Chad Morton and the entire Seahawks community, rest in peace brother."

Known largely for his Irish 'river dance' touchdown celebration, Collins rushed for 613 yards and five touchdowns as part of the Seahawks.

In between his two spells with Seattle, Collins spent two seasons with the Ravens, rushing for 1,384 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also caught a receiving touchdown for Baltimore.

Collins, who rushed for a 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons in college at Arkansas, played for the Memphis Showboats in the USFL this year, throwing a touchdown pass in a game against the Houston Gamblers.
