The Bears have the No. 1 waiver priority, thanks to having the worst record last season.

The team took advantage of this by claiming defensive tackle Bravvion Roy from the Panthers a couple of weeks ago. Now, the team has claimed another defender from the NFC South.

This new waiver claim brings plenty of starting experience to Chicago.

Mykal Walker was a surprising cut by the Atlanta Falcons this weekend. A fourth-round pick in 2020, Walker's role increased in each of his three NFL seasons in Atlanta.

Walker started in 12 games for the team in 2022, finishing third on the team with 107 tackles. Walker also tallied two interceptions, one sack, and four tackles for loss in 2022. This summer, Walker had been relegated to backup duty after the team signed Kaden Elliss in free agency.

Walker won't start in Chicago either, but he could make the team as a rotational piece. Linebackers Tremaine Edmunds, Dylan Cole, and DeMarquis Gates have been out with injury, so Walker should have a decent opportunity to prove himself. It's not often that a guy with 100+ tackle potential is available on waivers.

While Walker's stat sheet was impressive in 2022, PFF was not as impressed. The former Fresno State product struggled in pass coverage in 2022, ending with a 58.7 PFF grade.

In a corresponding move, the Bears waived LB Kuony Deng.
