Rhamondre Stevenson has got some help this season, and the New England Patriots running back didn't hold back when asked about the newest addition.
The Patriots signed Ezekiel Elliott to a one-year deal, with the veteran back joining the team in Green Bay.
“It’s great. Just one day with him. Just learning from him," Stevenson said. "I think we’re going to learn from each other, all learn from each other in the running back room, so I’m excited for it.”
“The way he runs the ball, his determination, his relentlessness," Stevenson added when asked about what Elliott brings to the table. "He’s just going to give you all he’s got.”
And how much is Elliott going to help the Patriots?
Stevenson's answer: “Tremendously.”
The Patriots have been searching for a veteran running back for a while, bringing in a few different players for visits and workouts.
But former Patriots running back James White made it clear that Bill Belichick has always had an appreciation for Elliott, and Stevenson admitted that he does too.
“That’s my guy. I met him 2021. We’ve been pretty close ever since,” Stevenson said.
And their friendship provided Stevenson with some first-hand knowledge, with the running back revealing that he had an idea if a deal was going to get done.
“I might have had a little clue about it, but I was just trying to focus on my team," Stevenson said. "Just the football field. But I had a little clue.”
While he was the prime running back for the majority of last season, it didn't begin that way. He and Damien Harris worked together before Harris suffered a hamstring injury followed by a thigh injury, allowing Stevenson to become the top running back.
Harris then left the Patriots, signing a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, leaving a vacant spot alongside Stevenson.
“Whatever the team needs me to do. If they need me out there more I’m reliable to do that. If they need me out there less, just keep all the running backs fresh, I’m with that too. Just whatever the coach wants,” Stevenson said. “It’s just the Patriots overall. They (are) kind of a tandem at running back usually, so I just come here, practice, get better, and just do what the coaches say really.”
And when the signing was first announced, Stevenson even took to Twitter, showing his excitement.
So it's clear that the two have a good friendship, but what's left is to see if that translates to the field.
