Will the Steelers play the starters?

As Mike Tomlin told reporters on Thursday, outside of Larry Ogunjobi, Tre Norwood, and Nate Herbig, every player will play including Joey Porter Jr., Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, Patrick Peterson, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Keanu Neal, and Damonate Kazee, all of whom missed last weekends opener for health or rest reasons.

Pair that with the Bills' intent to play their starters, and this should be a great preview to the 2023 regular season.

Who will shine brighter in the Return Game?

Coach Tomlin also announced that Anthony McFarland will return kicks and Calvin Austin will return punts, with Gunner Olszewski mixing in after. The three of them are all dynamic and similar in size and skill sets when it comes to their athletic profile, making special teams an intriguing watch on Saturday Night.

Three Players to Watch:

  • CB Joey Porter Jr: Barring another 11th-hour pre-game scratch, Porter Jr. will make his NFL debut tonight. Easily one of the higher anticipated rookie premiers in recent history for Pittsburgh, only Kenny Pickett last year could rival Porter Jr. in eyeballs.
  • LT Dan Moore Jr: With the Bills starting their first-team defense, and the Steelers playing their 1's on offense, how well Dan Moore Jr. holds up at left tackle will have a significant impact on who's the starter week one, especially when you consider the surge that Broderick Jones has had over the past week.
  • CB Patrick Peterson: Pat Pete will be making his debut in the black and gold, doing so against one of the league's better WRs in Stefon Diggs. I expect vanilla coverage concepts so there may not be much man-to-man coverage, but it will be interesting to see where the future Hall of Famer stands heading into year 13.
