Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell said the Lions were probably going to be looking for some receiver depth very soon. Per Campbell, he and Holmes are going to discuss this very soon.

Yesterday we suggested four receivers that are sitting in free agency that the Lions could maybe give a look at. Today we're going to take a look at some receivers that the Lions might be able to trade for.

It's important to once again note that the Lions are looking for depth here. Not starters. So if you're expecting to see some superstar trade, you've come to the wrong place. This is all about finding value out there that you can do more with in Detroit. Let's jump into it.

Danny Gray

Here’s an interesting one that was brought to me by our 49ers beat writer Nicholas McGee. Gray is a young option for the Lions at just 24. He was a third round draft pick in last years draft. He’s had a good camp and and a decent preseason, he’s just in a spot where he has too many good players ahead of him.

Detroit would be a good spot for Gray to get a chance since the team is dealing with some injuries and it doesn't look like Denzel Mims is going to make it. McGee says a late round pick would be enough to get the job done. I say why not? This is the best chance they could take.

Tre’Quan Smith

Here’s a guy from Dan Campbell’s past that the Lions could have a shot at. Smith has been with the Saints since 2018 and has played his role as a depth guy there very well. The problem for him is that the Saints are getting Michael Thomas back and they just drafted A.T. Perry. Smith is starting to get buried on the roster.

The Lions could probably pry him away from New Orleans for the same price they would pay for Gray. Actually it might be less. Smith could maybe wind up being a surprise cut for the Saints. If that happens, keep an eye on the possibility of him winding up in Detroit.

Jaydon Mickens

Movie stars always say stuff like “I do two for them and one for me.” That’s what I’m doing here. This one is all about me. I don’t forget draft crushes. Even if they don’t turn out to be superstars or anything. Mickens went undrafted in 2016, but he was a guy I wanted the Lions to give a shot too because of the shiftiness and speed he brings.

He's a lot like Kalif Raymond. A guy that's been mostly a return man everywhere, but could be capable of doing a lot more. He's new to the Giants, but he is just buried on their depth chart. I think the Lions could make a trade with the Giants that's very similar to what they did with Mims and Riley Patterson. A conditional late round pick with the condition being that the player has to make the Lions roster.

Van Jefferson

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Ok, you want me to take a swing? I’ll take one. The Rams seem like a team that are on the verge of going younger and doing a little bit of a rebuild. Van Jefferson has been good for them in the past, but young Tutu Atwell, who the Rams took in the second round in 2021, is making his way up the depth chart and Jefferson is in a contract year could possibly be heading elsewhere after this season anyways. Why not throw the Rams something like a fourth or fifth round pick and see if they’ll bite?

It's unlikely, but if you're hoping that the Lions go out and make a move for a guy that's going to come in and start, this is probably your best bet at doing that right now.
