One reporter covering the Kansas City Chiefs just confirmed something we were thinking about the Chris Jones' holdout.
The Chiefs' drama this offseason has been one that we really haven't seen this team go through in this era. Sure, the Orlando Brown Jr. situation was tough, but that didn't last very long, and the player wasn't as big or important to the team as Chris Jones.
It's looming over into training camp, as Jones was a no-show for mandatory training camp on day one. There is a good reason why though, as reports have confirmed the two sides, Jones and the Chiefs, are far apart on a deal.
According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, Jones wants a big contract extension that will make him at least, key word there, the second-highest-paid player at his position. Taylor also reported that Jones and his team are seeking $30 million a year, just a few behind Aaron Donald.
Later on Sunday, after the first practice, Reid spoke to the media about the situation.
"It's been good up (until) just a bit ago," Reid said to the reporters. "They're doing their thing, and we're doing our thing. We'll just see how things go from here. If you're not here, we just keep moving. That's how we roll."
Hopefully, we will see the two sides come together on a deal soon, but as of right now, it doesn't look like they are close. At least now we know what it is Jones is searching for.
