Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is coming off a Pro Bowl nod and the team drafted former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker in third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, yet it appears the team remains interested in adding another experienced signal-caller.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, via the NFL wire, the Lions worked out former Pro Bowl quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on Monday.
Rapoport's tweet is referring to the Lions' previous interest in Bridgewater before the draft, when they offered him a "strong contract offer", per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
It's an interesting situation. The Lions are clearly a playoff contender, so it makes sense they'd want to add veteran insurance at the most important position in the sport. Sure, the team drafted Hooker, but he's recovering from a torn ACL suffered in November and obviously, playoff contenders would love to have Pro Bowl depth at QB.
Bridgewater was originally drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He has built a 33-32 record as a starting QB in the NFL and he's thrown for 15,210 yards, 72 touchdowns and 47 interceptions over the course of 78 games. His first -and only- Pro Bowl nod came in 2015, when he led the Vikings to an 11-5 record that included the dramatic, last-second loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Wild Card Weekend.
