The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fortified their defensive line on Monday evening by bringing a familiar face back to One Buc Place.

The team reportedly reached an agreement with DL William Gholston on the eve of training camp, per Fox Sports' Greg Auman.  The terms of the deal have not yet been announced.

With questions along the defensive line, particularly as it relates to the unit's overall depth immediately behind their starters, re-signing Gholston gives the Buccaneers a reliable and experienced option that's familiar with the coaches, players, and scheme.  It's a signing that makes too much sense for both sides, especially with training camp starting up this week across the league.

Gholston enters his 11th season in the NFL, all with the Buccaneers, who drafted him in the 4th round of the 2013 draft.  The Michigan State product has 401 tackles, with 58 tackles for loss, 19.5 sacks, 77 QB hits, and 3 fumble recoveries over 153 games and 87 starts.

Perhaps his best year came in the Buccaneers' 2020 championship season, in which he started 12 games in the regular season and appeared in all four playoff games.  He generated a solid 12.2% pressure rate with 3 sacks while earning a 78.0 pass rushing grade from Pro Football Focus.

He's also the one who tripped up Patrick Mahomes on fourth down in Super Bowl LV early in the fourth quarter, which led to a wild incompletion where Mahomes released the ball while almost parallel to the ground.
