The New England Patriots appeared to be on the cusp of signing a top receiver earlier this month, but were unable to get the deal done.

On July 16, it was reported that Hopkins would be joining the Tennessee Titans, answering one of the biggest questions of the offseason regarding where the Pro Bowler would end up.

New England's offer just didn't match up to the Titans, with Hopkins going after the money. And on Tuesday, Belichick finally commented on all of this, showing that he is focusing on his current roster.

"It's like hundreds of other players we deal with through the course of the year," Belichick said. "We have so many roster spots. Some sign here. Some sign somewhere else."

"When there's an agreement, there's an agreement. When there's not, there's not," Belichick added. "There's 31 other teams."

The Patriots were one of two teams Hopkins visited, with the Titans being the other. While the visit was reportedly successful, as Hopkins posted a photo alongside Matthew Judon, it just wasn't enough.

However, while Hopkins was one of most notable names on the list of free agents, Belichick claims that he wasn't the only player they talked to."

"We talked to a number of players from the middle of June until now. Talking to other players now," Belichick said. "There's a lot of roster movement this time of the year."

While they didn't sign Hopkins, the Patriots added another receiver on Monday, signing former San Francisco 49ers 3rd-round pick Jalen Hurd. Hurd was one of two signings yesterday, with New England also bringing on LB Deigo Fagot.

Now that all the speculation is over, it's time for Mac Jones to figure out what his core receiving group will be.
