Tennessee Vols baseball received some tough, though maybe not unexpected, news on Tuesday afternoon.
Former Vols shortstop Maui Ahuna officially signed with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday just hours before the deadline.
Ahuna was selected by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
According to MLB.com, Ahuna signed for a $500,000 bonus.
There was some hope from Tennessee fans that Ahuna, who transferred to UT from Kansas ahead of the 2023 season, wouldn't sign with the Giants which would've allowed him to return to Knoxville for another season (though it's unclear what Ahuna's plans would've been).
San Francisco's dwindling bonus pool gave Vols fans some legitimate hope that Ahuna wouldn't sign. The Giants, however, were able to make it work just ahead of the deadline.
Ahuna was one of eight former Vols selected in the 2023 MLB Draft.
