Alton Robinson appeared as if he could be a potential steal when the Seahawks selected him in the fifth round of the 2020 draft.

Robinson entered the NFL on the back of a 19-sack college career at Syracuse that included a 2018 season in which he racked up 17 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

Yet he never managed to produce for the Seahawks, and his journey with Seattle came to an end on Tuesday. Robinson was released from his contract, robbing him of the chance to make up for lost time after a promising start to his third year in the NFL was curtailed by injury.

Robinson was in the midst of an impressive preseason in 2022, only to then suffer a knee injury that kept him out for the entire campaign.

In his absence, Uchenna Nwosu and Darrell Taylor each recorded 9.5 sacks in 2022. Nwosu was signed to a three-year extension this week and, with Seattle adding Derick Hall to their edge rusher depth chart with a second-round pick, Robinson was always likely to have an uphill battle to take snaps away from that trio and last year's second-round selection Boye Mafe.

Now he will try latch on with a new team and realize his potential elsewhere.

In addition to Robinson, the Seahawks also released defensive backs James Campbell and Isaiah Dunn while finally coming to terms with rookie second-round running back Zach Charbonnet. Fifth overall pick Devon Witherspoon remains unsigned.

The Seahawks signed two former XFL players in edge rusher Levi Bell and cornerback Andrew Whitaker. Former Browns defensive tackle Roderick Perry was another Seahawks signing on Tuesday as they fill out the final spots on the bottom of the roster.
