Dan Campbell sees a two headed monster Lions backfield

Of all the things I thought I was sure of on January 9th after the Detroit Lions wrapped up their final game of the 2022 season, the Lions sticking with the running back group that they already had on their roster was at the top of the list. That's not what happened though. The Lions instead completely overhauled it.

The Lions signed former Bears running back David Montgomery in free agency and then drafted Jahmyr Gibbs out of Alabama in the first round. There's a lot to liek about the guys they chose to replace Jamaal Williams and D'Andre Swift with.

Both guys bring a completely different aspect of the run game with them to Detroit. If they can compliment each other well, the Lions could really have a dangerous duo on their hands. Maybe even a two headed monster? Lions coach Dan Campbell seemed to think so in his recent interview on the NFL's Sirius XM channel.

I think you need a back that you can push comes to shove, he can carry a load, somebody you feel like you can give the ball to 20-25 times a game potentially. And then you need that specialty guy that you know he's much more. You know, he carries the scalpel and he can slice you up. And he can hurt you in the pass game. Potentially. I'm talking about Gibbs obviously get him out there and do a few more things." Campbell said. "so yeah I do see a two headed monster here."

Campbell went on to talk about how he's really pulling from his past with this duo. He talked abotu how when he was with the Giants, they had Ron Dayne and Tiki Barber. Tiki was the change of pace back and then in New Orleans as a coach when the Saints had Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara doing the same thing.

This duo should be very exciting to see. I, for one, can't wait to see what Ben Johnson and Dan Campbell have cooked up for them.
