The Dallas Cowboys are always the story of training camp. America's Team dominates the national headlines and is consistently the primary topic that is discussed on talk shows.
Dak Prescott, Trevon Diggs and trash talk has taken up most of the national headlines. Although Diggs quickly put an end to any narrative that was being driven by those outside of the locker room.
However, a different theme dominated Cowboys camp. This time, there is some actual on-field concern. Because the kicking game looks to still be an issue with the regular season just a few weeks away.
It's no secret that the Cowboys were hurt by kicking problems last season. Brett Maher missed as many as four extra point attempts during the win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs last season.
Dallas cannot afford to be plagued by special teams for another season. Therefore, the Cowboys opted to not bring Maher back. Instead, Dallas has Tristan Vizcaino and Brandon Aubrey on the roster.
But things did not go well in the kicking department during the most recent Cowboys practice. The kickers went 1-for-6 in the team's mojo moment and were welcomed with boos as a result.
Vizcaino was given his opportunity to show what he can do during OTAs and minicamp earlier this offseason. Then, the Cowboys inked Aubrey from the USFL to bolster the competition at the position.
Regardless of who ultimately wins the job, the Cowboys need to have a kicker that they can trust not only in big moments but also on routine kicks to put up more points on the scoreboard.
Needless to say, the latest Cowboys practice is not going to invoke much confidence in that happening. Thankfully, the team still has the preseason to work out some kinks before regular season action.
