Cleveland Browns were back in full pads for Sunday’s practice. It was their first practice fully padded practice since Thursday’s preseason win over the New York Jets.

A few guys were off to the side for a rest day, included there; LB Anthony Walker Jr., LB Sione Takitaki, DE Myles Garrett, TE David Njoku, and LG Joel Bitonio. Again, it was nothing more than a rest day for this group.

Out due to injury were CB Greg Newsome II (groin), WR Jaelon Darden (leg), DT Trysten Hill (hand), and TE Harrison Bryant (undisclosed). There was some good news for the Browns on the injury side, as TE Jordan Akins returned to practice after missing about a week with a knee injury. Also, returning for Cleveland was OT Tyrone Wheatley Jr., a player that would have played against the Jets if healthy.

Players who played on Thursday but didn’t practice today due to injury were DE Alex Wright, DE Isaiah Thomas, and DT Maurice Hurst. That is three defensive linemen out at a single time for Cleveland, not ideal at all. None of these players are guaranteed locks to make the roster, so any time missed wouldn’t be in their favor.

Plan for Commanders

Expect there to be a slight change of some sort when it comes to players playing in the Browns’ second preseason game. They’re not going to rule out 37 players for this one, as a few more will see the field for at least a series.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said he has a plan for Friday’s preseason game when it comes to the quarterback position and that he will share it in the next couple of days.

Browns training camp highlights

Early on during Sunday’s session, there was an Ohio State vs. Michigan battle. In some 1-on-1 work, Donovan Peoples-Jones and Denzel Ward matched up. Both players appeared to be a little handsy, nonetheless, it was a physical rep.

QB Deshaun Watson floated a nice pass to WR Amari Cooper for a score. Second-year CB Martin Emerson Jr. was the closest man in coverage. Cooper is completely fine following his early camp tweak that kept him out.

Overall, the defense got the best of the offense on the day. It’s exactly what you want to see from Jim Schwartz’s group.
