FOXBORO, Mass. — There are still questions regarding a situation that occurred at training camp on Thursday, with Jack Jones walking off the practice field in the middle of the session.
However it was Jabrill Peppers who was alongside Jones as he walked off the field, and on Sunday the defensive back was asked if he could shed some light on what happened.
"I was just giving him some wisdom," Peppers said. "He's an ultra-competitive kid so I was just giving him some wisdom. That's all."
The incident began after Jones broke up a pass along the sideline intended for Kendrick Bourne and got heated following the play. Soon after he walked to the stairs and returned to practice after it appeared that he had calmed down.
Along with Peppers, Jalen Mills and Matt Groh also had conversations with Jones, but he never returned to team drills.
“It’s football. It’s training camp,” Peppers said. “You know what I mean? Things come up, things happen. But that’s all part of football.”
Cornerback's coach Mike Pellegrino and Mills were also asked about the situation, saying that they are going to keep the conversations they had with Jones private.
And Jones explained that it was "just football."
Controversy has followed Jones throughout the offseason, with him being arrested at Boston Logan airport on June 16 for trying to bring two loaded firearms on the plane. Jones was arranged on June 30, with his attorney Rosemary Scapicchio stating that "he had no intention of brining any guns into Logan Airport that day."
He is being charged with two counts of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
While it was uncertain if he would be at training camp, Bill Belichick confirmed that he would be in attendance and has been there every day.
Jones is due back in court on August 18, which is just a day before New England's final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
