NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have one of the most interesting quarterback rooms in the NFL this season. Veteran Ryan Tannehill's starting job is not currently in danger.

Drafting Will Levis in the second round this year to compete with 2022 third-round passer Malik Willis behind Tennessee's incumbent is where the real competition lies.

Levis and Willis are battling to be the back-up. As the first week of Titans training camp wore on, Levis earned more opportunities to work with the second team. It does not mean that he has surpassed Willis on the depth chart, however.

“Just giving those guys opportunities," said coach Mike Vrabel. "And they've done that. I think that we just have to continue to get both Malik (Willis) and Will (Levis) throws behind different lines and working with different backs and receivers and all that. So, I feel like there were some good things out there and there were some things that we'll just have to get cleaned up. But I thought it was competitive and got some things done."

Tennessee will get Levis and Willis some live game reps with the team's first preseason game at the Chicago Bears this Saturday.

How Vrabel and his staff choose to manage the young quarterbacks will be among several position battles of critical importance. Willis started all three of the Titans 2022 preseason games ahead of then long-time back-up Logan Woodside with varying results. The Liberty product was far from ready for NFL action as a rookie but has made significant strides as he works through his second training camp in Tennessee.

Levis is keeping himself grounded about any and all opportunities at this point.

"That's the only way to get more opportunities," Levis said on 104.5 The Zone. "That's the only way to stand out, just day after day, come in and continue to do your job."

Both players will get to test out how much progress they've actually made in Chicago this weekend.
