The Cincinnati Bengals showed last season — especially during the playoffs — that they're not afraid to talk a little trash.
From "better send those refunds" to "BurrowHead", there was no shortage of trash talk coming from the Bengals' locker room last season.
Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, however, decided this week that starting the trash talk during preseason isn't necessary.
Higgins passed on a perfect opportunity this weekend to talk trash to the Green Bay Packers ahead of the two franchise's upcoming joint practices/preseason matchup in Cincinnati.
"It's definitely good competition," said Higgins when asked about the joint practices with Green Bay. "You know, go out there and show our coaches what we can do. And just go out there and just compete at the end of the day. It's good on good. And it's got the best on best. They got really good corners over there, really good DBs. The whole defense is really good. So I mean, it's gonna be a tough battle and it's gonna be fun."
Higgins was asked specifically if he's looking forward to going against Packers Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. Instead of talking trash to Alexander, Higgins took a pass and offered a diplomatic response.
Reporter: Do you want a moment against Jaire? Do you want that kind of challenge?
Higgins: Man, if it comes up, and the play is there, obviously it's my job to go and make that play. So obviously, if it comes, I'm gonna try to make that play.
It's still a little early for trash talk — especially since the start of the regular season is a month away. There's no need to talk trash ahead of joint practices. Almost nothing good would come from that.
Maybe later in the season Bengals fans will hear some trash talk in regards to opposing cornerbacks. But for now, Higgins is playing it smart.
