While there are players who are currently battling for starter jobs. The most intense battles of camp are those trying to earn a spot on their team's 53-man roster. With a new head coach running the show, no players on the fringe are safe.
This also means roster themes in years past can't be looked at as sure things. And while we aren't sure which positions this staff will want to prioritize, we can share which players on the bubble are impressing so far into camp.
So which players are separating themselves from the pact?
CB Jaylon Jones

The Colts’ corner room has multiple spots up for grabs, and the 2023 7th-rounder looks to be in the mix. Jaylon Jones was one of the highest-rated recruits coming out of high school. And so far though, Colts training camp Jones’ coverage ability has shined.
Normally for a 7th-round pick, camp is all about will they even make the roster. But for Jones, I feel like there's a better chance he's a primary depth corner this season than him not making the Colts' 53-man roster. His playstyle is awfully similar to 2nd-round pick Julius Brents. Jones could make a lot of sense as a rotational CB who checks in for Brents when he needs a breather.
DT McTelvin Agim

The Colts starting jobs at DT are locked up with DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart. The spots behind them though are wide open. One player who has stood out above the rest so far through camp has been McTelvin Agim.
DeForest Buckner has been sidelined with an injury over the past week, and McTelvin Agim has gotten the opportunity to work with the starters. Agim was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. But, in his 2 years with the team, he wasn't able to carve out a consistent role to stick with the team. He has yet to make his 1st NFL start, so its really notable that the team has looked at him as the next man up in Buckner's absence.
TE Drew Ogletree

Drew Ogletree or who “Tree” as his teammates and coaches call him, was a clear standout last training camp with the Colts prior to him tearing his ACL. Ogletree has now recovered and, with multiple injuries in the TE room, has had extensive time with the starters.
Ogletree's combo of size and speed shows up on the field has popped ever since last season after the Colts drafted him in the 6th-round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The team is likely to keep roughly 4 TE's and so far, it appears the top 3 spots are likely Jelani Woods, Kylen Granson, and Drew Ogletree.
LB Segun Olubi

Over the past few practices, you can notice the intensity has picked up at Colts training camp. Multiple pushing matches coming after plays, and plenty of words being exchanged. One player who is often seen in the middle of these exchanges has been LB Segun Olubi. Olubi is entering his first year with the Colts after spending last training camp with the San Franciso 49ers.
Olubi plays with a natural intensity that has been contagious on the field. And his teammates have taken notice. After practice fellow LB Zaire Franklin was asked about which players have shocked him so far through camp and he had this to say about Olubi "Young Segun, that's my boy. He's been flying around making plays. I can't wait to see him play in the preseason."
WR Michael Strachan

Michael Strachan is entering year 3 with the Colts and each year he’s had a strong performance through training camp. This year has been a similar story, with Strachan spending most of his time with the Colts’ first and second teams.
Over the past few practices, an element that keeps showing up is Strachan's ability to go up and grab 50/50 balls, and his improvement at back shoulder throws. I asked head coach Shane Steichen about Strachan's recent play and he had this to say "He's a big body type guy. He made some big plays last week so we thought let's keep working that it's a hard ball to defend. I like where Mike is at."
