Yesterday, the New Orleans Saints had a surprising retirement inside their organization. Defensive end Jabari Zuniga decided to hang it up for an NFL career. He never took a regular season snap for the Saints, but he was vying for a depth role off the edge.

Accordingly, their need for more edge rusher talent intensified. Today, the Saints have signed former New York Jets DE Kyle Phillips. In three years with New York, he started eight games.

Phillips won't get a starting role, unless a couple of major injuries happen. That being said, role players have gotten plenty of snaps for the Saint sin past seasons. In his time with the Jets, Phillips totaled 65 tackles, so he has proven production.

He will battle rookie Isaiah Foskey, Tanoh Kpassagnon, and Payton Turner for snaps going forward. Turner has flashed often in camp so far, but it is still early. Keep an eye on the veteran edge rusher as the season looms.
