Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis had a breakthrough day and his best practice of training camp on Monday.

From the jump, the 2023 second-round pick was on the money throwing the football. Levis looked sharp during individual drills, making some accurate throws across his body after stepping through simulated pressure.

When Levis took the field for Titans 7-on-7 reps, he completed all four of his passes. The first three of those completions were 20+ yards touchdowns threaded into a tight window. First it was former Kentucky Wildcats teammate Justin Rigg on the receiving end, then it was UDFA Tre'Shaun Harrison and Reggie Roberson Jr.

"It was good. It felt good," Levis said of his touchdown pass to his former teammate. "We connected for the first time here back in [7-on-7] the other day and it was good to keep the streak going. I had some flashbacks to my junior year at Kentucky."

During the full team period of practice (11-on-11), it was much of the same from Levis. He threw just one incompletion – a pass thrown for UDFA wide receiver Jacob Copeland in the corner of the endzone that was broken up by Matthew Jackson – which may have come out late, but was a fine throw and decision.

Levis would later add a touchdown pass to Racey McMath and then connect with Roberson in the endzone for a second time on his final throw of the day. In total, Tennessee's rookie quarterback completed six of seven passes in team periods with five touchdowns and very few (if any) questionable decisions.

After practice, Levis told me that he can usually anticipate when he is going to have a good day throwing the football. "You can tell when the ball is really coming out of your hands well," he said. Ironically, Levis did not feel like Monday was going to be one of those days beforehand.

Days like today are not only a positive sign of what Levis is capable of and where he is at in his development, it is also a useful tool for him moving forward. Levis likes to look at his best days of practice on film to see the mechanics he needs to repeat consistently.

"You do have those days when you feel like you have a little bit more control over the ball," said Levis. "Those are the days when you want to focus on 'What am I doing with my mechanics? What am I doing with my throwing motion? What do I feel myself doing so that when I get out here tomorrow I can do it again?' When you do have those good days it's important to watch that film and see why it was a good day."

Levis is not short on critics and the concerns about his game have been well documented. But on Monday, the rookie showed exactly why the Titans were wise to select him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft (and why so many others were foolish to pass). There is a reason why the organization views Levis as their future franchise quarterback.

He has tremendous arm strength, plus-athelticism, a quick release that is dangerous in play-action, and he is never shy to throw the football. Can that get him into trouble at times? Of course. But when Levis is dialed in, there's no throw he can't make.

Now it's time for Levis to watch the tape and repeat it tomorrow. Stacking days is the name of the game in training camp and the Titans are just getting started.
