Sure, things get chippy during training camp. I mean, we have seen some pretty big fights in the past from teams across the league. Even Travis Kelce, the reigning Super Bowl champion of the Kansas City Chiefs, just punched his teammate in the back of the head.
So, those things are almost expected.
The way I look at it – if you are getting chippy and whatnot, it shows you care. Sometimes you want that out of your guys. Sometimes it brings energy and shows who wants it the most and cares the most.
However, sometimes it's not right; The Raiders had one of those times today.
Raiders get chippy in training camp
According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, two of the Raiders' best and most important players got into it today. Reed tweeted that during 11-on-11 drills, things got chippy and heated between defensive end Maxx Crosby, who is known to say a few words, and new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
After watching the Netflix Quarterback docuseries, we discovered that Crosby could easily talk trash with the best of them. We also saw that he was getting the best of rookie tight end Michael Mayer in practice. Maybe he was having a good practice and was talking, and Garoppolo didn't like it.
Reed also tweeted that Crosby had to run a lap after.
Now, sure, this could be nothing, but for players as important as these two are, you still don't want to see it. Let's hope it doesn't happen again and get worse.
